Many trees, shrubs and perennials benefit from fall planting. While the soil is still warm and lower temperatures are on the way, planting in the fall has shown to promote strong root development and successful establishment of plants. Ideal planting times are early September thru mid-October. Conifers would benefit from an earlier start as they prefer warmer soil temps. Try and finish your planting 6 weeks before the first expected frost date.

Tips to successful fall planting:

*Choose a healthy plant from the nursery

*Remember the rule: Right Plant/Right Place

*You will still need to water in the fall

*Mulch

*Stake trees as needed
